In 1968, began work as an usher at the Roxy Theatre in Kansas City, MO (Durwood theatres later became AMC).  Learned the nuances of multi-cinema operation from the industry’s leading exhibitor.  Mastered advertising & promotion for cinema operators in competitive markets.  Went on to open multi-cinema facilities in Birmingham, AL and Memphis, TN for Cobb Theatres.

In mid 1970’s, shifted to film distribution joining Sunn Classic Pictures and helping shape “four-wall” distribution strategies that included massive television ad campaigns and heavy day/date theatrical bookings.

Later, as Advertising Director for Film Ventures International; implemented regional, national and trade print advertising buys.  Supervised national and local radio and television campaigns purchased by various ad agencies.

In the 1980’s, a wider range of business achievements began with the opening of Excelsior Cinema & Pub in the historic Excelsior Mill building in Atlanta, Georgia.  Adapting the innovative strategy of beer, wine, mixed drinks and locally famous menu and sub-run films; this operation added an income stream to what was an unused storage area.

That decade saw the engineering of a leveraged buyout of ½ Price Office Products in Chamblee, Georgia.  This unique business concept bought salvaged office products and sold both retail and wholesale.  Business grew to add a second location.

In the 90’s, business skills were put to use in another field, that of industrial electronic repair services.  This included authoring a sales brochure, “Ten Easy Step to Selling Electronic Repairs”.

In 1998, as a manager with Carmike Cinemas at their Snellville, Georgia location brought mature professional customer service skills to a youth oriented management team.

Co-produced and wrote “America’s WASPs” with a colleague from the cinema.  This thirty minute historical audio program was broadcast on Atlanta radio.

The new century brought the accomplishment of a lifelong goal.  With a partner, we purchased the Blackwell Star Cinema in Marietta, Georgia, a twin cinema.  Soon, the opportunity arose to buy the Marietta Star Cinema, a three screen cinema (later renamed Marietta Star Cinema & Playhouse with the addition of a stage).  These theatres were operated for over five years from 2000-2005 despite fierce competition from major circuit theatres with more screens in close proximity.  Programming included a wide array of films from Bollywood hits like “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”, “Bowling for Columbine”, “Passion of the Christ” and the cult classic “Rocky Horror Picture Show”.  One of a kind items were sold at the concession including gourmet popcorn with real butter, coffee imported from Costa Rica, warm nuts, somosas and other specialties.  In addition, innovative live shows were offered including special holiday events and a nostalgic radio show reenactment performed on stage.

During 2005-6, Clear Vision, an internet radio show broadcast on Out of Time radio network was produced and achieved an audience into the tens of thousands.  This was a positive upbeat non-confrontational show designed to lift people up, entertain and educate.  Sponsors included no-kill animal shelters, internet printer cartridge recyclers and local businesses.
